Purveyors of contemporary ambient and electronic inspired music, A Winged Victory for the Sullen make a bold return on new album “The Undivided Five”. The pair, made up of Dustin O’Halloran and Adam Wiltzie, have created iconic film scores and forward-thinking ambient groups, releasing a series of game-changing records for Erased Tapes and Kranky.
On “The Undivided Five” they rekindle their unique partnership for only their second piece of original music outside of film, TV and stage commissions, creating an album that channels ritual, higher powers and unspoken creative energies.
‘Keep It Dark, Deutschland’ (below) is taken from the album ‘The Undivided Five’, released 01 November on Ninja Tune.
About A Winged Victory for the Sullen
A Winged Victory for the Sullen began with a friendship. Composers Dustin O’Halloran and Adam Bryanbaum Wiltzie met backstage in 2007. Four years later, their debut self-titled was released on Ereased Tapes. The album features seven different harmonic landscapes, redolent of the large acoustic spaces in which it was recorded.
During the summer of 2013 the pair recorded over sixty minutes of music while working on the score for the Royal Ballet choreographer Wayne McGregor. While recording they were inspired by McGregor to move into more electronic musical territory. The result was their second full length album, Atomos (2014), a record that stays true to their signature chamber sound augmented with electronics and modular synthesisers.
Winged Victory for the Sullen have gone onto perform in some of the world’s most celebrated venues, including a sold out Boiler Room performance at London’s Barbican, and a 2015 BBC Proms show curated by Mary Anne Hobbes at the Royal Albert Hall.

In 2017 Erased Tapes marked its 10th anniversary by opening the Erased Tapes Sound Gallery.
